Question 1

What does a typical day look like?

Accepted Answer

Whatever your family needs it to be — but here's the rhythm most families fall into. Wake up, breakfast, a workout or a swim or a stretch while the house is still quiet. Then the children head out, or they don't, and you get to work — or working out, or just relaxing.

The little ones, ages 2 to 5, go to the equestrian club three minutes away, 8am to noon with care until 2pm. The 5 to 12s go to the art, learning and nature club twelve minutes away, and our driver takes them and brings them home. There are sheep and chickens on site, the space is covered but open to the air, and it's run by a couple we've known and trusted for years, who educate our own children. Themes change monthly — emotional intelligence one month, indigenous arts the next, theater after that — and there's reading and math too, plus a lot of crafts and project work. Once a week they walk to the river or go to the beach.

Both programs take drop-ins, so two or three days a week is completely normal.

Your children can also just stay home — pool, crafts, room to roam — and log on if they're in an online program. Or go private: we have a Waldorf teacher who runs small groups by the season, and a tutor who taught in the States.

Afternoon options: dance, jiu jitsu, aerial silks, ceramics, gymnastics, drop-in soccer. For adults, Pilates down the road, and daily yoga and fitness classes twelve minutes away. Or hire a private trainer to come to the house.

And three family days a week, which is where you'll meet the other worldschooling families here — beach meet-up on Wednesdays, Dominicalito, the river in Uvita, plus the cacao meet-up.

Question 2

What learning options are nearby?

Accepted Answer

Two independent programs run within a short drive: the equestrian club for ages 2 to 5, three minutes away, five days a week in Spanish immersion; and the art, learning and nature club for ages 5 to 12, twelve minutes away, five days a week in Spanish with English available. The nature club is run by a couple we've known and trusted for years, who educate our own children — sheep and chickens on the land, a covered space open to the air, and children from all over the world moving through it. Afternoons bring ceramics, dance, aerial silks and jiu jitsu. Both programs are independently operated and carry separate fees, and we help you coordinate all of it.

Question 3

What is available for the children at Vitalia?

Accepted Answer

We have four children of our own, so Vitalia is set up the way we'd want it for ourselves.

Giant magnet fort building, a full playroom, art supplies, a giant trampoline, a full park, dress-up clothes, a mineral spring water pool, a sandbox and hose and outdoor play area, a big driveway for bikes and scooters, a yoga pavilion, and plenty of places to play and swim. Just down the road there's the river, the beach, and plenty of hands-on things for children to do.

Question 4

What if my child is older than 12, or too young to separate?

Accepted Answer

Older than 12. The two clubs cap at 12, and there is a 12+ education option 35 minutes away and another new one in Uvita. Surf and skateboard lessons, jiu jitsu, ceramics, aerial silks and drop-in soccer are all open to teens as well. We also have a private tutor — a former US teacher — and a Waldorf teacher who runs small groups by the season. Tell us their age and what they're into and we'll map it before you arrive.

Too young to separate. Hands-on, Spanish-speaking care is available at Vitalia, with people our own children have grown up around. Some families start with care at home for a few weeks and move to the equestrian club when the child is ready.

Question 5

What about the weather?

Accepted Answer

Green season. Warm, the jungle at its loudest, fewer tourists, and big sunsets over the Pacific.

This is an El Niño year, which has been holding rain on the Caribbean side. Our coast has run drier than usual and that is expected to continue. When rain does come it usually comes in halves rather than whole days — wet morning and sunny afternoon, or the other way around. Pack for both.

Green season is our favorite: the jungle at its most alive, and more of the real culture of the place.

Question 6

What is the food quality? Will I have to source my groceries?

Accepted Answer

We do all the sourcing for you. We have spent years building relationships with local farmers here, so what reaches the kitchen is organic fruit and vegetables, grass fed wagyu, pasture raised non GMO chicken, and our cook prepares all of it in house, in stainless steel and entirely seed-oil free. All grains are prepared WAPF style.

Each worldschooling family pays for their own ingredients, and they are delivered to the micro-hub. If your children want snacks beyond what is served, those can be purchased separately.

The menus are simple, nourishing and, most of all, delicious: organic eggs with plantains and avocado, locally made sourdough avocado toast, grass fed burger patties with salad and a house made dressing, chicken curry with lemongrass grown on the land, chimichurri grilled chicken, pastured chicken soup, properly soaked rice and beans, patacones, julienned carrot and cabbage salad, house fermented kraut, grain free chocolate cake with local cacao, grass fed butter and Italian meringue frosting, fresh superfood smoothies, and more.

And fruit, much of it grown here or just up the road: bananas from the land, strawberries from the mountain, apples, mandarins, mangoes and papayas.

All animal products are locally sourced and grass fed on Costa Rican pastures. We can accommodate vegetarian or vegan preferences with advance notice, and we can just as easily be animal based. The kitchen is largely gluten free, with the exception of beautiful sourdough made with imported Italian flour.

Quality is our North Star.

Question 7

Can parents work remotely while the children learn?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Four places to work: a coworking space, an office in the second house, a desk in a main house bedroom, and a desk downstairs. Two working parents are not negotiating over one room. Starlink and fiber running side by side, with battery backup for the main house. Your work week holds while the children are at their programs.

Question 8

How is eco-lux a part of the experience?

Accepted Answer

A mineral spring water pool, hydrogen cleansed. Sauna, cold plunge, Peloton, elliptical, pull up bar, weights and a yoga pavilion looking out over the rainforest. Daily yoga is also available at a community center twelve minutes away, as well as air conditioned Pilates.

Question 9

What about cleanse and retreat options?

Accepted Answer

We can coordinate cleanse protocols and retreat work with our favorite local practitioners, personally vetted. This is an experience, not an amenity: it's built around you and what you want your time to do for you.

Check the box on the form and let's talk it through when we connect.

Question 10

Do you use scented products? How is the space cleaned?

Accepted Answer

Vitalia is meticulously kept, ozone cleaned and cleaned only with vinegar and natural soaps. The mattresses are organic latex and the bedding is cotton.

Question 11

What is it actually like living in the jungle?

Accepted Answer

We keep it very clean. It's still the jungle.

A toad can find its way into the pool. Geckos live on the walls and earn their keep. Something can make a noise at 3am you've never heard before, and by morning it turns out to have been a bird.

Housekeeping is daily and the land is looked after.

Question 12

Can our family stay for a full season?

Accepted Answer

Yes, that is exactly what Vitalia is for. This isn't a stop on a trip; it's a home your children live in, learn in, and get to know by heart for a season. The founding residency runs October 15 to November 30, 2026, with a one month minimum, and families who join us for the full season receive priority consideration.

Question 13

What does a month at Vitalia cost?

Accepted Answer

The full experience is $7,000 per month. That includes daily meal preparation (cooking included; you pay for groceries), housekeeping and laundry, activity coordination for the children's programs, a driver who takes the children to their programs and brings them home, and coworking. Hands-on, Spanish-speaking care for your children is available — share the hours you need and we will let you know the cost. Groceries and independent program fees are separate.

Question 14

How many families can be at Vitalia at the same time?

Accepted Answer

The property can accommodate up to three families. For this founding season we're opening to one — or to a larger group who already know each other and want to share the experience.

You are welcome to invite another family or friends, or keep it to yourself. The land is yours during your time with Vitalia. The caretakers are present, including at times their children, but do not stay on site.

Question 15

How about privacy and security?

Accepted Answer

The land is fully fenced and secure, and still connected to the community as a micro-hub. It is paved for bikes and scooters, and surrounded by natural foliage and a stunning ocean view.

Question 16

Where is Vitalia?

Accepted Answer

Uvita, in the Costa Ballena region of Costa Rica's South Pacific coast, Puntarenas province.

The beach is about twelve minutes away, the river five, and guided waterfall tours ten, all up a paved road.

We also have access to an incredible waterfall property nearby.

Question 17

How do we get here?

Accepted Answer

The easiest way is to fly into San José, then take the regional hop to Quepos — about half an hour in the air and about an hour by road to us. With children and bags, that's the one we'd recommend.

By car from San José it's about four hours, and we can arrange a driver for you.

A 4×4 can usually be arranged too, depending on availability and how many of you there are. We handle the arranging; the cost is billed separately.
